Benjamin Evans is an artist, curator, philosopher and teacher. As an artist, he has exhibited his work in both his native Canada and his adoptive city of New York. As a curator, he served as the director of two non-profit, artist-run galleries before launching his own itinerant experiment Projective City. As a writer, his work has most recently been featured in Public Seminar, an online forum of ideas and debate sponsored by The New School. As an instructor, Evans has taught classes in both studio contexts (painting, drawing and elementary design) at well-known art and design schools (The Alberta College of Art and Design, Parsons, Parsons Paris) and in the humanities within the City University of New York system (philosophy and intellectual history). He holds five degrees in philosophy, fine art, and general humanities (Ba, MA, Mphil, MFA, PhD), which have cumulatively helped him to really understand Socrates’ wise comment: “The only thing I know is that I know nothing”.
